3 Must Have Products to Get The Stink Out of Your Gym Clothes
Girl. You would be amazed at how many folks I have had to talk to them about top products for washing gym clothes. I’m not talking about, oh hey, my clothes are having a hard time getting the smell out, what do you use? I’m talking about, girls telling me they don’t wash their gym clothes at all in between sessions.
WHAT?!
You’re telling me that you just put on the same gym clothes after you sweat in them like that?
IF I’M LYING, I’M DYING. I’M TOTALLY SERIOUS.
I’ve had to tell them that they need to wash their clothes in between sessions. Believe me, I try to be as kind as possible. But, ya’ll. Stop the madness.
Wash your dang clothes.
First of all, with that sweat and everything, bacteria festers and grows. Which is gross. And, we smell.
It is what it is, right? We smell. Hence why we have perfected the shower and bath scene over the past 125 years.
BECAUSE WE REALIZED, HEY! WE AS HUMANS STINK.
We should handle that and bathe and take care of ourselves.
Look. There’s no shame in sweating like crazy during a workout. None at all.
I’ll be the first to tell you that I sweat like a man with a glandular problem. See below example. This is just me after a 5 mile run. No makeup, it’s not pretty, ya’ll.
But you can bet your hiny pots that I washed that outfit thoroughly. Rinse off in the sink and then in the washing machine it goes!
I’m super paranoid about smelling to begin with, because I work with clients and sometimes am in their personal space. I really try to always have a mint or piece of gum and sometimes I will put extra deodorant on in between clients.
YES. I’M PARANOID AND UBER ANAL ABOUT HYGIENE.
This coming from a woman who will live on dry shampoo for a few days. Haha! It’s called balance.
Anyway! Let’s dive into my favorite products to kill that smell of gym clothes.
TOP PRODUCTS FOR WASHING GYM CLOTHES #1 – TIDE FREE AND GENTLE DETERGENT
I am a big fan of Tide free and gentle detergent because it doesn’t have the blue coloring in it which I have found will break out mine and my hubby’s back pretty badly.
This detergent will get into your smelly clothes and break up that smell and nastiness that creates that smell and will come out smelling like clothes clean clothes and not all perfumy.
TOP PRODUCTS FOR WASHING GYM CLOTHES # 2 – DREFT STAIN REMOVER
Okay, let’s have some real talk. For those of us that sweat profusely, sometimes those sweat marks can create stains on our clothing.
This stain remover is actually “for baby’s clothes”. You know, mama, when they’ve had explosions or spit up, you’d rinse off the clothes then spray this on there and ta-da, no stains.
Same goes for our gym clothes with sweat marks.
Here’s what I haven’t tested with this –
I haven’t tested already set stains from my own clothes. If I’m concerned about there possibly being a stain come from a sweat mark, I will spray before throwing into the washing machine.
But it did remove messy stains from my sons clothes when he was still tiny, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t remove stains from your clothes as well!
Because this, coupled with the Tide Detergent in the washing machine will knock it right out before it sets.
TOP PRODUCTS FOR WASHING GYM CLOTHES #3 – TEA TREE OIL
Okay, all of the essential oil jokes and memes I’m seeing all over the internet seriously cracks me up. It is honestly hysterical.
However, I really have found that a couple of drops of Tea Tree oil in some warm water and soak the gym clothes for 30 min or so really does help the smell.
DON’T ASK ME HOW, BECAUSE I HAVE NO CLUE. BUT IT DOES WORK.
While I don’t use oils for everything, the oils I do use, I get here through Young Living. Their products just seem to be superior to oils I have bought in the store.
Again, I don’t know everything about it, I’m just throwing out there what I’ve learned through experimentation!
I PERSONALLY LIKE TO KEEP THINGS REALLY SIMPLE WHEN IT COMES TO LAUNDRY.
Because, to be honest, I hate laundry. It’s a necessary evil. I’m just super thankful that we live in the 21st century where we have washing machines and dryers.
Can you imagine going out and beating your family’s clothes against a rock?
OH LORD HELP US. NEITHER CAN I. THAT WOULD BE TERRIBLE.
There are sometimes, however, that we have to take a few extra steps to make sure that our clothes don’t smell like a teenager who hasn’t had a shower in a few days.
ONE LAST TIP –
be sure to check your gym wear care instructions. All of the different brands of active wear have different instructions for how to take care of your clothes.
I’m sure that you have several different brands in your closet and some of them may be the brands that you can toss in the washing machine, while others in your closet, you might want to pay closer attention to.
There’s a reason they have the care instructions on there. Because, those are typically the more expensive ones and we want to take extra care of those because they were so expensive!
Athletic clothes are super expensive, aren’t they? But that’s another post in itself, so let’s not go there right now, shall we? :-)
