3 USEFUL AND QUICK HEALTHY EATING TIPS FOR BUSY MOMS
I’m about to hop on my soap box here, mama, so why don’t you just come on in and we’ll chat. Don’t worry, this soap box isn’t directed at you necessarily, it’s just pointed at how the media has made eating healthy with a busy schedule look like it’s suuuuuuupppppeeeeeerrrrr hard.
LISTEN UP – IT’S SO MUCH EASIER THAN IT IS MADE OUT TO BE.
In fact, I might dare say that it is easier than eating “sloppy”.
Here’s the deal. I am a huge fan of flexible dieting and the, well, flexibility of it. I am also a huge fan of counting calories and knowing where you are in regards to your caloric intake.
A lot of times, we as consumers look for a quick fix, but the reality is, that this whole healthy living thing is a lifestyle, and another reality?
We’re super busy.
We have so many things screaming for a piece of our calendar that it can seem overwhelming to eat healthy.
Because, we get in our minds that eating healthy means cooking dinner every single night.
WANT TO KNOW A LITTLE SECRET?
I cook dinner about two-three nights per week. Want to know another secret? We only eat out about once a week. Sometimes twice per week.
We make a weekly Friday trip to Chick-Fila for lunch where J-man and I share the nugget meal and then we may eat out one other night that week.
HOW DO I GET AWAY WITH IT?
Well, I do it by preparing food ahead of time. That way, when we’re ready to eat, it’s there and ready.
But more on that in a minute.
Sometimes, as mamas, we get super overwhelmed with everything that has to be done.
We’ve got our work bosses pulling for our time, and we’ve got our tiny boss(es) at home grabbing for our time.
Here’s 3 tips for eating Healthy on the go.
EATING HEALTHY WITH A BUSY SCHEDULE TIP #1 – MEAL PREP
This is my absolute number one tip for eating healthy with a busy schedule. Prep your food ahead of time and grab it when you’re ready to eat.
There are so many healthy and yummy recipes out there to be able to eat well during the week that are meal prep friendly.
I describe a meal prep friendly meal as one that warms up well. Something that doesn’t turn to rubber or dry completely out in the microwave.
Meal prepping is a great way to be able to track and weigh out your food ahead of time, so it’s an easy track in your MyFitnessPal.
BECAUSE, TO REACH OUR FITNESS GOALS,
especially weight loss goals and maintaining those goals once we’ve reached them, nutrition is absolutely vital to the routine.
Remember- calories are king and flexible dieting is an excellent lifestyle of eating that has a great adherence results.
The general rule is 80% “clean” and 20% of the other stuff. Know your numbers and count your calories for your meal prep. Super easy to do. You’ve got this
EATING HEALTHY WITH A BUSY SCHEDULE TIP #2 – FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE
These are becoming more and more popular and there is a reason for it! It’s because places like this will deliver awesome and healthy food customized to your needs, right to your door step.
I recommend a local food prep place for something like this. In my home town, we have an awesome location that will customize exactly to the dietary needs of the customer. They weigh and count your meals and everything!
They deliver your food to your door and voila. All you have to do is play refrigerator Tetris to get it all in there!
One last thing on food delivery services – a lot of places have kid friendly meals. By this, I mean they include veggies that kids normally like and some great options for their protein and starches.
Don’t make something different for your kids! Teach them how to eat well from a young age. My mama taught me to eat well from a young age and it has carried into my adult years and now I’m writing this!
It’s worth the struggle that might come with it. You’ve got this mama.
EATING HEALTHY WITH A BUSY SCHEDULE TIP #3 – SCOUT OUT RESTAURANTS
Okay, now, sometimes, life happens and there is absolutely no way you could get food cooked ahead of time or you didn’t get your food ordered ahead of time.
I totally get it. Life. Happens. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
This is where we learn to roll with the punches.
As you’re learning this new lifestyle, you should scout out restaurants in your area that offer legit and quality food. We have several here in town that I know if I don’t have my lunch ready or something and I’m out and about, I can drop in there and get a good meal that’s easily trackable.
If their menu isn’t in MyFitnessPal, you can request the menu through the app, or you can ask the employees the details of the meal.
Example- Salad with Grilled chicken, avocado, and assorted veggies with a raspberry vinaigrette. Ask how much lettuce goes in, and how much avocado, and how many grams/ounces of chicken and the measurement of the vinaigrette.
Plug it in and voila- you know how much you’ve eaten and all while being out and about and on the go.
ONE MORE TIP ON BEING OUT AND ABOUT –
if you’re traveling for vacation, just relax and go with the flow. Look for places that look like they’d carry real food. Roll with the punches and think outside the box.
See? That’s not so bad
